Ukraine's allies agree that future security guarantees for Kyiv should include a commitment to support the country in the event of a new armed attack from Russia, as said in a draft statement prepared ahead of the Coalition of the Willing summit, reports Reuters.

According to the document, such commitments may include the use of military capabilities, intelligence and logistical support, diplomatic steps, and additional sanctions against Russia. However, the draft still has to be approved by the coalition leaders later today.

More than 27 leaders are participating in the summit. US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner have already arrived at the Élysée Palace. The main goal of the meeting is to specify as much as possible the contributions of allies to the security guarantee system for Ukraine in the event of a possible ceasefire with Russia.

The draft statement notes that negotiations on security guarantees have made significant progress in recent weeks, although Moscow has not yet shown willingness to agree to such arrangements.

While the focus was previously mainly on military aid and potential participation in international security forces, attention is now shifting to legally binding mechanisms to support Kyiv.

A senior European official told the media that there is hope that strengthening the coalition's guarantees will also help cement the US commitments that have been broadly outlined in bilateral negotiations with Ukraine.

“There will be a continuous, reliable ceasefire monitoring system. This will be led by the US with international participation, including contributions from members of the Coalition of the Willing,” the draft statement says.

The document also provides for the continuation of long-term military assistance to Ukraine, as well as the creation of multinational forces for Ukraine.

Summit in Paris

On January 6, Ukraine's allies are gathering in Paris to agree on their contribution to future security guarantees for Kyiv in the event of a ceasefire with Russia. Among the key topics are the formation of a common position of Ukraine, Europe, and the US, as well as the possible deployment of foreign troops after the establishment of a truce.

Leaders plan to finalize security documents with a focus on security guarantees and Ukraine's recovery, followed by consultations in the US with a wider range of countries.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has already held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, is taking part in the meeting.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the signing of documents that would finally cement the joint US-European position on Ukraine could take place in the coming days, possibly in Washington.

Sky News reports that at the meeting, Ukraine's allies are preparing to make binding commitments in the event of future aggression from Russia.
