EU foreign ministers to meet in UK to discuss support for Ukraine

On May 12, the foreign ministers of France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland, and the EU will meet in the UK. The talks will focus on support for Ukraine and possible sanctions against Russia, Reuters reports.
The European counterparts will be hosted in the UK by Foreign Secretary David Lammy. During the meeting, in addition to the topic of assistance to Ukraine, they will also discuss the expansion of regional defense cooperation.
The meeting will take place on the eve of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's summit with EU leaders, which is expected early next week.
According to Lammy, the allies are facing a unique moment for the collective security of our continent.
"The challenge we face today is not only about the future of Ukraine - it is existential for Europe as a whole," he emphasized.
Lammy planned to announce further sanctions against those who support Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.
During the meeting on May 12, the UK Foreign Secretary is expected to call for strengthening European security.
According to Western media, at a summit with EU leaders on May 19, Starmer hopes to sign a new defense agreement with the bloc and improve trade ties after Brexit.
Coalition of the Willing visit to Ukraine and Putin's refusal to call truce
Last Saturday, British and Polish Prime Ministers Keir Starmer and Donald Tusk, as well as French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, visited Kyiv. They met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and supported the call for a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire with Russia, which was also supported by US President Donald Trump.
The partners also threatened Russian dictator Vladimir Putin with new sanctions if he did not agree to such a ceasefire with Ukraine as early as May 12. Instead, the Kremlin leader refused and offered direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15.
Last night, Zelenskyy said that he would personally look forward to meeting with Putin.
