Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he will personally wait for Russian President Vladimir Putin in Türkiye on Thursday, May 15.

"We await a full and lasting ceasefire, starting from tomorrow, to provide the necessary basis for diplomacy. There is no point in prolonging the killings. And I will be waiting for Putin in Türkiye on Thursday. Personally," he emphasized.

The President also added that he hoped the Russians would not look for reasons why they could not proceed this time.

Ceasefire negotiations

On May 10, several European leaders arrived in Kyiv. They first met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and later reached out to US President Donald Trump.

During the call, it became clear that Ukraine and its allies are prepared for a full and unconditional ceasefire, lasting at least 30 days.

Zelenskyy later confirmed that the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia is set to begin on Monday, May 12.

However, in the early hours of May 11, Russian leader Vladimir Putin rejected the ceasefire proposal. Instead, he suggested resuming negotiations that began in 2022 in Istanbul, but only after May 15.

In response, Trump's Special Envoy, Keith Kellogg, stressed that a 30-day, unconditional ceasefire must come first. Only then, he said, can peace talks take place.

A few hours later, Trump urged Ukraine to immediately agree to talks with Russia in Türkiye, calling it a chance to see if an agreement is even possible.
