US President Donald Trump has called on Ukraine to immediately agree to negotiations with Russia in Türkiye, stating that this is an opportunity to test whether an agreement is even possible.

According to Trump, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is not seeking peace, but Ukraine should still agree to the talks.

"President Putin of Russia doesn’t want to have a Cease Fire Agreement with Ukraine, but rather wants to meet on Thursday, in Türkiye, to negotiate a possible end to the BLOODBATH. Ukraine should agree to this, IMMEDIATELY," Trump said in his post on Truth Social.

The US President added that during the talks, Ukraine will at least be able to determine whether a peaceful agreement with Russia is possible.

"If it is not, European leaders and the US will know where everything stands, and can proceed accordingly!" emphasized the US leader.

Additionally, he expressed doubt about the possibility of a peace agreement with Putin, who, according to Trump, is too "busy celebrating."

"I’m starting to doubt that Ukraine will make a deal with Putin, who’s too busy celebrating the Victory of World War II, which could not have been won (not even close!) without the United States of America. HAVE THE MEETING, NOW!!!" Trump urged.

Negotiations in Türkiye

On May 10, the Coalition of the Willing meeting occurred in Kyiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hosted French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

After the meeting, the leaders spoke with US President Donald Trump. As a result, Ukraine announced its readiness for a ceasefire for at least 30 days, starting from May 12. Meanwhile, European leaders warned Moscow that new sanctions would be imposed if Russia rejected.

However, on the night of May 11, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin held a press conference. During this time, he rejected the ceasefire proposed by Ukraine, the US, and the Coalition of the Willing, which started on May 12.

Instead, Putin suggested resuming negotiations in Istanbul on May 15, which had started back in 2022, from where they had left off. It was reported that Putin would discuss this matter with Erdogan.

In response, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready for dialogue only after a full and comprehensive ceasefire.
