Drones attacked the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl during the night of July 6. Residents reported a series of explosions at the facility, according to OSINT channels.

What is known about the attack

Local residents reported a successful attack on the oil refinery in Yaroslavl.

According to them, explosions continued for several minutes after the strike. Videos from the scene have been published online.

What is Slavneft-YANOS?

The Novoyaroslavsky Oil Refinery is one of the five largest oil refineries in Russia.

The facility processes about 15 million tons of oil annually.

The refinery is a key asset of Slavneft Oil and Gas Company. Nearly all of the company's shares — 99.7% — are equally owned by Rosneft and Gazprom.

This is not the first attack on the facility. In late May, following an overnight drone strike, an industrial area with fuel facilities caught fire in Yaroslavl, and the road toward Moscow was blocked for several hours.

On May 25, Russia was also targeted in another attack by unidentified drones, which also led to the closure of the route from Yaroslavl to Moscow.

In addition, on May 22, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian drones had attacked the same refinery overnight.

On May 19, the governor of the Yaroslavl region reported that the Slavneft-YANOS refinery may have been targeted in an attack.
