DPRK sends about 11,000 troops to war against Ukraine, says Seoul
North Korea deploys 10,900 troops to Russia’s Kursk region to fight against Ukraine’s Armed Forces, according to Reuters.
North Korean troops have been deployed as part of Russia’s airborne and marine units.
Additionally, North Korea has supplied further weaponry for the war in Ukraine, including self-propelled howitzers and multiple-launch rocket systems, said Lee Seong-kweun, a member of South Korea’s parliamentary intelligence committee, citing information from the National Intelligence Service.
South Korea’s intelligence agencies are still working to verify the precise number of North Korean casualties and determine whether any troops have surrendered amid conflicting reports.
Involvement of DPRK troops in the war against Ukraine
Over the summer, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea and signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
By late October, media outlets began reporting that Pyongyang had sent North Korean soldiers to Russia to take part in the war against Ukraine.
The media reported that the DPRK could deploy up to 100,000 troops to help Russia in its war against Ukraine.
Russia has also received long-range missile and artillery systems from North Korea, with some of the equipment stationed in the Kursk region.
Additionally, Pyongyang sent three generals to Russia, including Kim Yong Bok, the mysterious Deputy Chief of North Korea’s General Staff.
