US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supposedly does not like the peace plan that has been developed, according to a White House broadcast.

According to Trump, the people around the Ukrainian leader (likely referring to negotiators) were enthusiastic about the agreement that had been drafted - something he says he cannot say about Zelenskyy himself.

"I thought that we were very close with Russia to having a deal. I thought we were very close with Ukraine to having a deal. In fact, other than President Zelenskyy is people loved the concept of the deal. You know, we threw something out," the US president told reporters.

US peace plan and disputes surrounding it

In recent days, Donald Trump expressed his disappointment with Zelenskyy, claiming that the president supposedly had not read the US peace plan. But it soon became known that this was about an updated version, which had been given to Zelenskyy literally an hour or so before his conversation with Trump’s advisers.

Shortly afterward, the US president gave an interview to Politico, where he stated that Ukraine should hold a presidential election. According to him, allegedly 82% of Ukrainians demand a peace agreement, while the authorities, on the contrary, are using the war to avoid elections.

In response to the calls from his American counterpart, Zelenskyy said that he is ready for elections, but security must first be ensured, and the legislation must be amended. For reference, the head of state has already asked members of parliament to prepare changes that would allow elections to be held during martial law.

Parallel to these statements, Ukraine, the US, and Europe continue to work on the peace plan. In particular, the parties are discussing three key initiatives: a framework document, a security guarantees agreement, and a document defining the principles of post-war reconstruction.

According to Zelensky,y on December 11, Washington has already handed Kyiv a draft of the security guarantees, which will continue to be worked on.

Trump himself said last night that the US is ready to provide security guarantees, as this is a necessary factor for reaching an agreement.
