Czechia does not plan to join US President Donald Trump's initiative to purchase American weapons for Ukraine through NATO. The country is focusing on other aid projects for Kyiv, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said in a comment to Publico.

The Czech Prime Minister explained that his country would support Ukraine in a different way, focusing on its own ammunition initiative.

"Czechia is focusing on other projects and ways to assist Ukraine, such as the ammunition initiative. Therefore, we are currently not considering joining this particular project," Fiala said.

US-NATO arms deal for Ukraine

On July 14, the United States and NATO finalized an agreement that provides for the transfer of American-made weapons to Ukraine, funded by European countries. Several nations — namely Sweden, Denmark, and Germany — have already agreed to contribute.

Under this deal, Ukraine is expected to receive US weapons worth $10 billion, which will be purchased from the United States by European allies.

According to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the agreement could result in Ukraine receiving a significant supply of air defense systems, missiles, and ammunition.

Media reports indicate that the US will not directly supply these weapons to Ukraine. Instead, NATO countries will deliver equipment from their own stockpiles and later replenish them with newly purchased US arms.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany would not yet disclose the specifics of the American weapons it plans to send to Ukraine.
