Chrystia Freeland may leave ministerial post and become Canada’s special envoy for Ukraine - Media

Canada’s Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, Chrystia Freeland, will receive a new position. She is likely to become a special envoy for Ukraine, CBC informs.
The new position for Freeland was reported by unnamed sources from the outlet.
According to CBC sources, Freeland may announce her resignation as early as Tuesday, September 17.
Chrystia Freeland
Chrystia Freeland, who has Ukrainian roots, has held key positions in the Canadian government since 2015, when the Liberal Party came to power, and has long been considered a close ally of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In December last year, she shocked Ottawa by unexpectedly resigning as Finance Minister just hours before the release of the fall economic statement. At the time, Freeland criticized her government’s economic policy and "expensive political maneuvers."
Her resignation increased pressure on Trudeau and became one of the reasons for the start of an internal party leadership race. Freeland participated in that race, but the winner was Mark Carney.
Beyond financial matters, Freeland has played an important role in shaping Canada’s foreign policy. She has headed the ministries of International Trade and Foreign Affairs, and led the Canadian negotiating team during US President Donald Trump’s first term, securing the signing of a new trade agreement.
