China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to reports about possible arms supplies to Iran and the transfer of dual-use technologies.

During a briefing, ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that Beijing follows a cautious policy in the field of arms exports.

"China has always taken a prudent and responsible approach to military exports, implementing strict control in accordance with its own laws and regulations on export control and its international obligations," he stressed.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also rejected accusations of supporting Iran, calling them unfounded.

"We oppose baseless smears or malicious associations," the ministry added.

What came before

The Chinese statement came amid reports in Western media about a possible expansion of military cooperation between Beijing and Tehran.

In particular, on April 11, CNN, citing US intelligence assessments, reported that China could transfer air defense systems to Iran, which could affect the balance of power in the region after a fragile ceasefire.

US President Donald Trump also reacted to these reports. Speaking to journalists, he warned China of "serious consequences" if it supplies weapons to Iran.
