Cherkasy hit by Russian missiles loaded with shrapnel

Russian forces launched a missile attack on the city of Cherkasy today, July 24, using munitions loaded with shrapnel. Fragments from such warheads can spread up to one kilometer, the Ukrainian news agency Suspilne reports.
According to Ihor Taburets, Head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, the missile strike caused two major zones of destruction in the city. Among the damaged infrastructure are civilian sites, including around 15 apartment buildings. Seven people were injured, including a nine-year-old child.
Taburets clarified that Russian forces used Iskander-K missiles equipped with shrapnel warheads. The fragments had considerable destructive power.
"This was an extremely powerful blast. The spread of this kind of shrapnel can reach up to a kilometer," the Head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration said.

Due to the massive blast wave, windows were shattered and roofs damaged in many buildings. Some of the injured were hospitalized, but according to Taburets, their lives are not in danger.
"All of them have light injuries, three were taken to the hospital for treatment. They are not in any danger. One of the injured is a nine-year-old child who was hurt by broken windows and doors," the Head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration noted.
Combined Russian attack on July 24
Overnight on July 24, Russia carried out a missile attack on Cherkasy. Explosions were heard throughout the city, and several fires broke out. Local authorities described the situation as under control.
Later, Ukraine's National Police published images showing the aftermath of the strike.
That same night, Odesa also came under attack. Fires broke out in the historic city center, damaging architectural landmarks. Later, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that the Pryvoz Market, located in the historical district, had also caught fire.
