Belgium allocates €150 million to Ukraine

Ukraine will receive €150 million in financial aid from Belgium. The money will be used to restore and maintain critical infrastructure, prepare for winter, and more, according to the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
The large-scale international technical assistance project, Belgian Initiative to Support the Recovery of Ukraine (BE-Relieve Ukraine), has officially launched. It is being implemented by the Belgian government through the development agency Enabel.
Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Kostiantyn Kovalchuk explained that the project goes beyond technical assistance - it’s a partnership between Ukraine and Belgium focused on long-term recovery.
The initiative will last until the end of 2028, during which Ukraine will receive €150 million. Key project participants include Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, as well as the city of Kyiv.
The main areas of the initiative include:
- Modernizing energy infrastructure: installing decentralized heating and electricity systems, and supplying mobile boilers and generators;
- Healthcare and social protection: rebuilding hospitals, rehabilitation programs, inclusive services;
- Education and employment: upgrading schools and technical colleges, and organizing forums to strengthen cooperation between the education and business;
- Support for European integration: facilitating reforms and building stronger ties with Belgian partners.
Initial steps include the delivery of 212 generators to educational institutions, mobile boiler units for hospitals and utilities, and the repair of medical infrastructure.
Belgium’s support for Ukraine
Belgium is a member of the European Union. As part of joint EU initiatives, the country provides Ukraine with military, humanitarian, and financial assistance.
Last week, on April 8, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot, and Defense Minister Theo Francken visited Kyiv.
During the visit, the Belgian Prime Minister announced a €1 billion defense aid package for Ukraine. He also discussed the potential supply of F-16 fighter jets with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
