Another explosion occurs at burning Atlas oil depot in Russia's Rostov region
An explosion has occurred again at the burning Russian oil depot Atlas near the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky in the Rostov region. The facility has been engulfed in flames since yesterday following a drone attack, according to the Russian media and Telegram channels.
Emergency services continue to work at the Russian Atlas oil refinery in the Rostov region, trying to manage the severe fire.
According to the Telegram channel SHOT, witnesses reported hearing an explosion at the oil facility late Wednesday evening.
The Russian side suggests that the preliminary cause of the explosion was the rupture of one of the three burning tanks due to the fire.
Meanwhile, Baza specifies that the rupture and new explosion ignited a fourth tank at the Atlas depot.
"Currently, more than 200 people are trying to extinguish the fire," adds this Telegram channel.
According to Astra, after a new explosion at a facility in the Rostov region, the blaze can be seen from dozens of kilometers away.
Images of the incident at the burning oil depot near Kamensk-Shakhtinsk have been circulated online.
What preceded
On August 28, the Atlas oil depot in the Rostov region was attacked by drones. This led to a massive fire and significant damage to the fuel tanks at the facility.
It is noteworthy that this oil depot is part of the Russian military-industrial complex, providing fuel supplies for the army.
Sources told RBC-Ukraine that the Atlas oil depot was struck by drones during the night of August 28 as part of an operation by the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, together with the Special Forces Operations of Armed Forces of Ukraine
Additionally, satellite images of the fire in the Rostov region oil depot appeared on the evening of August 28.
It is also worth noting that the oil depot in the city of Proletarsk in the same region has been burning for over ten days following an attack by Ukrainian drones.
