North Korea may send between 10,000 and 100,000 soldiers to Ukraine - Expert
North Korea may send between 10,000 to 100,000 troops to assist Russia in the war in Ukraine, military expert Oleksii Hetman shares this information in a comment to the YouTube channel RBC-Ukraine.
"Given that North Koreans do not adhere to any laws or rules, and with an army of over a million soldiers, it's entirely possible that they could send up to half a million troops — roughly the same number as Russian forces currently on the front line," Hetman said.
He explained that North Korea understands South Korea is unlikely to attack them.
"Most likely, although anything could happen... But hypothetically speaking, North Korea is a small country in terms of size, but their army is about the same size as Russia's. So even if not half a million, it's quite possible they could send 10, 20, 30, or even 100,000 troops," the expert noted.
According to Hetman, this would present a significant problem for Ukraine. Additional forces would likely not be spread across various Russian units but instead would form a separate unit if they participated in combat.
"But it's quite possible that these soldiers will be engaged in the rear, not on the front line. And then those (Russian soldiers — ed.) who are currently deployed in the rear may be moved directly to the front line," added Hetman.
North Korean soldiers may be sent to Ukraine
Recently, the media reported that several thousand North Korean soldiers are currently undergoing training in Russia. By the end of the year, they could be deployed to the frontlines in Ukraine.
North Korea's Ministry of Defense had previously not ruled out the possibility of sending its own soldiers to Ukraine to assist the Russian army.
According to sources cited by RBC-Ukraine, on October 3, more than 20 soldiers were eliminated near Donetsk, including officers from North Korea.
