Ukraine is facing a shortage of certain missiles for its air defense systems. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged Europe either to provide these weapons or to supply funding so they can be purchased.
"Today we are also discussing air defense and certain missiles — I don't want to say out loud which ones are in short supply. Some systems currently lack certain types of missiles," he said.
The Ukrainian president noted that he has held talks with partners and added that the issue "can be debated for a long time and at length, but every day something is flying."
"Every minute, something is hitting somewhere. It has to be shot down. That's why partners either provide licenses, provide missiles, or help with funding so we can buy them ourselves," Zelenskyy said.
He added that the best answer to the question of whether Europe understands the situation is the fact that Russia is allocating record budgets not for peace, but for war against Ukraine.
Earlier, the Ukrainian president said that the production of low-cost combat drones would be reduced severalfold if Kyiv does not receive funding from the European Union this spring. Ukraine’s long-range capabilities would also decline.
It is worth noting that following the Ramstein-format meeting on December 16, Ukraine and Germany reached agreements worth €1.2 billion. These include Germany's purchase of Ukrainian-made drones and Berlin’s financing of the production of 200 Bohdana self-propelled howitzers.
Recently, Germany also delivered two Patriot air defense systems and a ninth IRIS-T air defense system to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
