Zelenskyy visits Ireland amid journey from US to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's plane en route from the USA landed in Ireland, where he met with Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris, reports RTÉ TV channel.
It is noted that the plane of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy landed at Shannon International Airport in Ireland on his way from the USA, where he participated in the NATO summit and held a series of meetings.
At the airport on the runway, Zelenskyy was greeted by Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris, along with Ukraine's Ambassador to Ireland, Larisa Herasko.
During a brief address, Zelenskyy thanked the people of Ireland for their support since the start of Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine and for hosting a significant number of Ukrainian refugees.
Additionally, as reported by RTÉ, he mentioned that President Joe Biden's calling him "President Putin" on Thursday was a "mistake," noting that the United States strongly supports Ukraine and he is willing to overlook it.
It is reported that Zelenskyy and Harris will discuss the war in Ukraine during their bilateral meeting.
"Mr Harris will affirm Ireland's support for Ukraine's bid to join the EU and offer assistance to the plight of thousands of Ukrainian children forcibly repatriated to Russia and Belarus since the invasion. He will confirm Ireland's membership of an international coalition calling for the return of an estimated 20,000 children," journalists report.
RTÉ adds that the Irish Prime Minister will also express his condolences to Zelenskyy for the losses suffered by Ukrainian citizens during the war, particularly due to the strike on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv earlier this week.
