Ukraine is preparing to launch a new financial assistance program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This will help strengthen the Ukrainian people, according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram.

According to Zelenskyy, he held a conversation with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

The president informed the head of the IMF about Ukraine’s efforts to bring the war to an end as soon as possible, yesterday’s conversation with US President Donald Trump and European leaders, as well as the next steps forward.

"We are doing everything possible to achieve a just and lasting peace this year. We are grateful to everyone who is helping us and, of course, we count on continued support," he emphasized.

Zelenskyy noted that it was important to hear that the IMF acknowledges Ukraine's fulfillment of all its commitments and the implementation of reforms.

"We discussed a new financial assistance program that will strengthen Ukrainians both now and in the post-war period. We are ready to take all necessary steps quickly. The government is already working on this," he added.

The talks also touched on additional funding for Ukrainian soldiers. Various options are currently being considered.

New loan program

The head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andrii Pyshnyy, previously stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine that the current loan program with the IMF no longer meets Ukraine’s needs.

For her part, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that if the war continues next year, Ukraine will need a new loan program from the IMF.
