Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Italian President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni for the equipment that Italy will send in the coming days to support Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Zelenskyy said the focus of his conversation with Meloni was on supporting Ukraine's energy infrastructure and coordinating diplomatic efforts.

Italy will deliver new equipment in the coming days to strengthen and restore the energy system after Russian attacks.

Zelenskyy also updated Meloni on the results of recent contacts with the US and outlined the current prospects and challenges in the negotiation process.

"There is still work to be done together to ensure that Russia genuinely commits to ending the war. Italy clearly supports the need for real security and for preventing any renewed outbreaks of war," Zelenskyy said.

According to the Italian Government Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Meloni expressed solidarity following a new series of indiscriminate Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets. She also announced the shipment of aid to support the country's energy infrastructure and population.

"The generators supplied by Italian companies will be sent to Ukraine in the coming weeks," the statement said.

Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure

On the night of December 6, Russia launched another wave of drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, striking the country's energy infrastructure.

The Ministry of Energy reported damage to facilities involved in electricity generation, distribution, and transmission across Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv regions.

DTEK (Ukraine's largest private energy company) also said that Russian forces targeted its thermal power plants in several regions. As a result, Ukrainian nuclear power plants were again forced to reduce generation.
