"Russia has again attacked DTEK thermal power plants in various regions of Ukraine. Equipment has been seriously damaged. We are working to eliminate the consequences of the strikes," the statement said.
DTEK noted that this is already the company’s sixth attack on its thermal power plants in the past two months.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, DTEK thermal power plants have been attacked more than 210 times.
Energy infrastructure strike
Recall that on the night of December 6, Russian forces carried out a large-scale missile and drone strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure across several regions.
Targets under Russian fire included power generation, distribution, and transmission facilities in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv regions.
By morning, power outages had been reported in six regions: Odesa, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Mykolaiv. Where security conditions allow, emergency crews are already working—energy specialists are restoring networks and trying to return electricity to all consumers as quickly as possible.
Ukrenergo reported that the volume of pre-planned electricity consumption restrictions has been forcedly increased today.
The company also reminded that currently, all regions of Ukraine are experiencing rolling hourly outages of 2.5–3 blocks simultaneously.
