President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that he is willing to resign if Ukraine is accepted into NATO and the war is over. In that case, he would consider his mission accomplished, according to a broadcast of the president's interview with British journalists.

In response to a question from a media representative, Zelenskyy stated that the process of changing the head of state would be complicated.

“With what's happening, with the support, to change me, it will not be easy. Because it is not enough to simply hold elections. You would need to prevent me from participating in the elections. It will be a bit more difficult. So they'll have to negotiate with me and I said that I'm exchanging it for NATO membership and then it means that I fulfilled my mission,” the president said.

Zelenskyy also commented on pressure from international partners who may try to influence Ukraine’s decisions. He criticized such approaches, adding that they contradict democratic principles.

“Although honestly it looks like the people and I'll not be calling their posts, but the citizens of other countries are telling Ukrainians which president they should have. Especially if these people occupy official posts, it seems to me a bit undemocratic and unconstructive. We are speaking about the values and it definitely looks not very democratic. Although I'm openly saying maybe it is a solution for Putin, for everybody. If I'm not that flexible as they say I'm exchanging it for NATO,” the president concluded.

Yesterday, US House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy needs to come to his senses and return to the negotiating table with gratitude. Otherwise, someone else should lead the country. This statement came just days after a dispute arose between Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump over differing views on the situation in Ukraine.
