Zelenskyy signs three new sanctions packages hitting Russia and its allies

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees on September 20 introducing three new sanction packages against Russia and Russian collaborators. These individuals support the war in Ukraine and destabilize Moldova.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine expects the European Union to adopt its 19th sanctions package against Russia and is coordinating Ukrainian sanctions with European measures.
"Russia's energy resources are being restricted. The shadow fleet infrastructure will also face new pressure. Cryptocurrency schemes, which Russians use to bypass sanctions, will be countered by Europe," the president said.
He added that Ukraine's proposals for the EU sanctions package were largely incorporated. Ukraine now awaits sanction steps against Russia from the United States.
At the same time, Ukraine signed three decrees imposing sanctions against Russian propagandists, those conducting business in temporarily occupied territories, and individuals who help destabilize Moldova. The last measure signals Ukraine's interest in a stable and successful Moldova.
Sanctions against Russia
Earlier on September 20, Zelenskyy said Ukraine expects Europe and the US to step up sanctions against Russia, noting that delays reduce pressure on Moscow. He made the remarks in response to President Donald Trump, who linked new sanctions to multiple conditions.
In the United States, senators plan to propose legislation to Congress to increase sanctions pressure on Russia. The draft law targets Russia's shadow fleet, LNG production projects, and the defense industry.
On September 19, the European Commission presented its 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions for discussion among EU member states. Among other measures, it includes a plan to phase out Russian gas by January 1, 2027.
