Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced preparations for a trilateral meeting aimed at ending the war, though the final format of the talks has not yet been determined, Ukrinform reports.
Preparations for negotiations
A trilateral meeting focused on ending the war in Ukraine may take place in the near future.
At the same time, the final format of the talks has not yet been agreed. The head of state said this during the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine.
"Ending the war and achieving peace in Ukraine is the number one issue and the number one task for me, for our negotiating team, and for Ukraine as a whole. We are currently in a trilateral process of various agreements. Due to the war in the Middle East, our meetings were postponed. The last one took place in a video format. We had a conversation with representatives of the US President’s team, and we agreed that a trilateral meeting will take place soon, or there will be a format where the American group comes to us and then likely travels to our neighbors," Zelenskyy said.
Key security issues
According to the President, work is ongoing to finalize security guarantees for Ukraine.
In particular, questions remain about funding the army after the war ends and ensuring the supply of air defense systems.
He also highlighted the complexity of the issue of how the United States would respond in case of renewed Russian aggression.
Timeline and US involvement
Zelenskyy also noted that the exact date of the visit by US representatives has not yet been determined.
This is due to the fact that US negotiators are currently engaged in talks with Iran.
The timeline is expected to be clarified after the Easter holidays.
The Kremlin has not yet made a final decision on a possible ceasefire during Easter, which Ukraine had previously proposed. As Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, the issue remains open.
Trilateral talks between Ukraine and Russia have been temporarily postponed due to a shift in US foreign policy priorities. As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained, the schedule of diplomatic contacts has been affected by international developments, particularly Washington’s temporary focus on the situation in Iran.
