The Kremlin has not yet made a final decision on a possible Easter truce, which Ukraine previously proposed to Russia, according to Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov.

"Vladimir Putin has not yet made any decisions regarding an Easter truce with Ukraine," Peskov states.

However, in his comments to Russian media, he does not give a clear answer to Ukraine’s proposal.

Possible Easter truce

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was ready for an Easter truce and proposed a temporary ceasefire as a signal toward a broader peace process.

Kremlin responded to the idea of an Easter truce. Moscow stated that it did not consider such a proposal sufficiently justified.

Zelenskyy also emphasized that other signals were needed from Russia, as words alone were not enough.

Also on April 3, Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine was not withdrawing its proposal for an Easter truce, despite Moscow’s vague response. At the same time, he emphasized that Moscow’s reaction to the proposal for an Easter ceasefire remained unclear.

Large-scale prisoner exchange and 2025 Easter truce

Head of the Office of the President, Kyrylo Budanov, reported that Ukraine and Russia may conduct a large-scale exchange of prisoners of war on Easter. According to him, everything necessary would be done to carry out such an exchange.

On the eve of Easter in 2025, Putin announced a so-called Easter truce, which was supposed to last just over a day, but the fighting did not completely cease.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia violated last year’s Easter truce 2,935 times during the period it was in effect.
