US President Donald Trump's promise to introduce secondary tariffs against Russia earlier than expected is a clear signal to Moscow, according to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, and the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko.

Yermak’s response

"Thanks to President Trump for standing firm and delivering a clear message of peace through strength," Yermak wrote.

He reminded that Trump had promised to shorten the timeline he gave to Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war, as the response was already obvious.

"Putin respects only power — and that message is loud and clear. This is a principle fully shared by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky," added the head of the Presidential Office.

Kovalenko’s response

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation noted that Trump’s promise shows that the US understands Putin has no intention of stopping the war and that he will have to be "hit."

Trump’s deadline

A few weeks ago, US President Donald Trump promised to impose 100% secondary tariffs on Russia if Moscow fails to sign a peace deal with Ukraine within 50 days.

As of today, July 28, the American leader has revised that deadline. He stated that he would shorten the timeline for Russia, as he already knows Moscow's response to his ultimatum.

Such secondary tariffs could force Russia’s biggest trading partners to stop buying its oil and gas. Notably, India has already announced its readiness to halt imports of Russian oil.
