Trump frustrated with Putin, gives 50 days for peace deal

US President Donald Trump is disappointed with Russian leader Vladimir Putin due to the lack of progress in peace negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine, Trump stated during a joint press conference with Secretary General Mark Rutte.
"We've spent 350 billion dollars approximately on this war with Russia and Ukraine... We want to see it end," Trump said.
He emphasized that he does not consider this war his own: "That wasn't my war, that was Biden's war".
Trump also noted that he had expected a peace deal with Putin two months ago, but it never happened.
In response, Trump promised to impose tough economic measures: "We're going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don't have a deal in 50 days, it’s very simple. And they’ll be at 100 percent, and that’s the way it is".
He also expressed hope that such measures could be avoided, but emphasized that the United States is prepared to act firmly.
Trump’s shift in stance on Russia
Recently, US President Donald Trump has changed his rhetoric toward Russian leader Vladimir Putin amid intensified attacks on Ukraine.
On Tuesday, July 8, Trump stated that the US gets "a lot of bullshit thrown" by Putin and added that he is very seriously considering a sanctions bill proposed by Senator Lindsey Graham. The bill calls for imposing 500% import tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil, gasoline, or petrochemicals.
The White House chief also promised Putin a "surprise."
