Ukraine has stepped up its diplomatic efforts in the US: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has sent over 600 letters to Donald Trump and all members of the US Congress, urging stronger support, states Ukraine’s Ambassador to the US, Olha Stefanishyna.
What is known
The letters were sent personally to Trump and to every member of the House of Representatives and the Senate. According to Stefanishyna, the appeal has already received positive responses from US lawmakers. The main goal is to accelerate the adoption of critical decisions for Ukraine’s defense.
"The war continues, people are dying. And a decision that could protect so many Ukrainian lives can be made," the ambassador emphasized.
What Ukraine is asking for
The key request to the United States is the protection of Ukrainian skies. Kyiv is primarily asking to strengthen air defense systems and provide additional anti-ballistic capabilities. Urgent meetings between Stefanyshyna and members of the Ukrainian Caucus in Congress are planned in the coming days.
The letters were sent after a massive attack on Kyiv. Zelenskyy sent an urgent letter to Trump warning of a critical shortage of air defense assets amid intensifying strikes and threats from the Kremlin.
In the letter, the president revealed details of the attack: on the night of May 24, the Russians used two Oreshnik missiles — one struck the Kyiv region, the other fell in the occupied territory of the Donetsk region. Analyst Anton Zemlianyi predicts that massive attacks could occur every two to three weeks.
