President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the letter to his American counterpart, Donald Trump. He stressed that the current situation requires swift action, according to a statement by Zelenskyy on Telegram.

"It is rare for leaders of another state to address both the President and Congress of the United States at the same time in a letter, but the current situation is such that we must act swiftly and effectively," the head of state said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the importance of ensuring that "America hears Ukraine." At the same time, he noted that much of the world's attention is currently focused on the war in Iran.

"We need to stop the war here in Europe as well — a very bloody war that has been ongoing at a full-scale level for five years already. And the sooner we are able to provide greater protection against ballistic missiles, the sooner we will be able to make diplomacy work," Zelenskyy said.

He stressed that as long as Russia continues to rely on missiles, "its interest in diplomacy is not genuine."

"We have to change this. And we can change it only together with America. Ukraine is grateful to America for all its support. It will be even more grateful for a dignified peace and guaranteed security. All of this is possible if there is enough determination," the president emphasized.

What preceded this

Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent a letter to Donald Trump warning about a critical shortage of air defense systems amid intensified large-scale attacks on Ukraine and public threats from the Kremlin regarding new strikes on Kyiv.

In the letter, Zelenskyy said that during the night of May 24, the Russian forces used two Oreshnik ballistic missiles. One of them struck the Kyiv region, while the second fell in the temporarily occupied part of the Donetsk region.

RBC-Ukraine also reported that, according to Anton Zemlianyi, an analyst at the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, Russia is capable of carrying out massive attacks, but likely at intervals of two to three weeks.
