Ukraine now has a good chance to stop the bloodshed and achieve a "worthy peace." The key is the partners’ understanding of the situation and their "maximum involvement," according to a statement by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram.
He said he had a conversation with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. They discussed the war in Ukraine, including the possibility of achieving peace and strengthening the Ukrainian army.
"Right now, we have a great chance to stop the bloodshed and achieve a worthy peace, and I informed the Prime Minister about the latest details of our negotiations with the American side. It is important for us that our partners understand the situation and are fully engaged," Zelenskyy emphasized.
He added that he discussed further cooperation with the Estonian Prime Minister and the continuation of support for Ukraine. He noted that Estonia has been providing assistance since the beginning of the full-scale war.
"We also talked about implementing joint projects within the SAFE program and about the importance of the PURL program, which allows us, in particular, to strengthen air defense and protect the energy sector," the Ukrainian leader said.
Ukraine–US negotiations
Ukraine and the US continue working on a peace plan. As a result of the dialogue, the document was reduced from 28 points to 20 points.
The last negotiations took place yesterday, December 25. Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone with US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. According to the Ukrainian president, ideas for a lasting peace in Ukraine were discussed.
Earlier this week, Zelenskyy revealed the full content of the peace plan. The most contentious issue remains territorial matters, which have not yet been fully agreed upon.
RBC-Ukraine previously reported that US President Donald Trump will meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday, December 28, at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
