Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and the US leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to the President's post.
According to Zelenskyy, the call was very positive. The President thanked the US officials for their constructive approach, intensive work, kind words, and Christmas greetings to Ukrainians.
Zelenskyy emphasized that efforts to bring an end to Russia's war against Ukraine continue around the clock.
"We discussed certain substantive details of the ongoing work. There are good ideas that can work toward a shared outcome and the lasting peace. Real security, real recovery, and real peace are what all of us need – Ukraine, the United States, Europe, and every partner who helps us," he said.
Zelenskyy expressed hope that the Christmas agreements and ideas discussed during the call will be useful.
The following representatives from Ukraine also participated in the conversation:
-
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov
-
Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Andrii Hnatov
-
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha
-
First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya
-

Presidential Adviser Oleksandr Bevz
Zelenskyy added that Umerov will speak again with Witkoff and Kushner later today.
"We believe this is the right approach – not to lose a single day or a single opportunity that can bring the result closer. May today’s conversation become another step toward peace," Zelenskyy said.
He also conveyed Christmas greetings to US President Donald Trump and the entire Trump family.
Zelenskyy meets US envoy Witkoff in Berlin
On December 15–16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks in Berlin with US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff and the US leader's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The discussions focused on the US peace plan. After the talks, an unnamed US official told Western media that Washington and Kyiv had agreed on "90%" of all issues.
However, Zelenskyy noted that there is still no agreement with the US on territorial issues. Previously, media reports had suggested that the US demanded that Ukraine cede the Donbas without a fight.
