Zelenskyy: Question of whether Ramstein format will continue is not being raised
The question of whether the Ramstein format will continue is not being raised. The next meeting has been announced for February, according to a comment from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Ukrainian journalists following the Ramstein meeting.
"As for the question of whether the Ramstein format will continue or not, it is not being raised. Everyone understands that the next meeting is in February. This has already been agreed upon," he said.
The president did not hide the fact that it is important for Ukraine that this Ramstein format continues its work.
"We know the date and the location, but I don’t want to speak about it publicly," Zelenskyy stated.
Concerns about the potential cessation of the Ramstein format arose after the election of the new US President, Donald Trump. Just the day before, the Minister of Defense of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, stated that the upcoming Ramstein meeting on January 9 could be the last.
Following this, several European leaders expressed the opinion that Ramstein should continue. Among them were US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
Later, Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, confirmed that the next Ramstein meeting could take place in February.
For reference, the next Ramstein meeting took place on January 9 after a four-month hiatus. During this meeting, the allies agreed on plans for supporting Ukraine until 2027.
