Ukraine support plans until 2027 agreed at Ramstein meeting
The allies agreed on plans to support Ukraine within the Ramstein format. They include steps to develop Ukraine's defense capabilities until 2027, reports the US Department of Defense.
The United States has published a joint statement by the leaders of eight coalitions within the framework of the Ramstein meeting. Ukraine's allies, fulfilling their commitments of July 12, 2024, have agreed on eight roadmaps. They have been developed by the coalitions to optimize efforts to assist Ukraine, support the development of a robust defense and deterrence, and facilitate Ukraine's cooperation with NATO.
“These roadmaps are a substantial step forward in our countries' support for Ukraine, inform the Capability Coalitions' continuing work, as well as send an important demand signal to defense industry,” the statement said.
The partner countries plan to work closely with Ukraine to help not only in wartime but also afterward. Including donations, procurement, investment, and efforts to expand the industrial base by attracting domestic production and support opportunities for Ukraine's defense industry.
“Coalitions also plan to continually refine and integrate these detailed plans to support urgent and long-term needs, as Ukraine defends against and deters future Russian aggression,” the allies said.
Pentagon's comment
At a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin emphasized that the coalitions helped Ukraine receive assistance from its partners more quickly.
“We have stood up eight Capability Coalitions. They are led by 14 countries, as well as Ukraine. In close partnership with our National Armaments Directors, these new coalitions ensure that our support is coordinated, efficient, and sustainable,” he said.
Austin emphasizes that the coalitions will continue to support Ukraine's immediate needs on the battlefield and help deter Russian aggression in the long term while critical reforms in mobilization and other areas are implemented.
Ukraine's main goals
As Defense Minister Rustem Umerov explained, Ukraine's main task is to balance the immediate needs of the army during the war with the long-term goals of the Defense Forces' development. Ukraine is also working to make the Armed Forces fully compatible with NATO forces.
34 countries have already become part of the coalitions. According to the agreed roadmaps, the main areas of cooperation are:
- providing military assistance;
- organization of procurement;
- attracting investments;
- support for the Ukrainian defense industry and its development.
“This is also an important signal to the Ukrainian defense industry: there is a demand for weapons and equipment, and it is very high,” Umerov added.
