Zelenskyy: Putin's attempt to take Ukraine was his main error

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin tried to take Ukraine. This was his main mistake, as he failed to consider the will of the Ukrainian people.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his address.
"Putin did not believe in our people, so he made this hopeless decision to try to take Ukraine. That was his main mistake — ignoring the Ukrainians. I believe in our people because Ukrainians are strong, because Ukrainians defend their land," Zelenskyy said.
The president also emphasized that many countries have sided with Ukraine during the war.
"Even those aligned with Russia know it is committing evil. Of course, we will not reward Russia for what it has done," the head of state added.
Trump and Putin meeting
It should be recalled that on August 6, US Special Representative Steve Witkoff visited Moscow and met with Putin to discuss the possibility of ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
On the same day, US President Donald Trump informed the Ukrainian president about this meeting. The Ukrainian leader suggested that Russia now seems more inclined toward a ceasefire.
Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that American and Russian officials are preparing an agreement to end the war.
At the same time, Trump said that the possible peace plan includes returning some territories to Ukraine and a mutual land exchange with Russia.
Part of these agreements could reportedly be formalized at the upcoming Trump-Putin meeting, preliminary arrangements for which emerged after Witkoff's visit to Moscow.
Recently, The New York Times, citing sources, reported that US President Donald Trump plans to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin next week. This was later confirmed by the White House.
Today, August 9, Trump said his meeting with Putin will take place at a "popular location."
Later, Trump announced that he will meet Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15. However, he added that further details about the meeting will not be disclosed at this time.
