Russia launches overnight attack: Drones and missiles hit two directions, dozens of strikes reported

On the night of August 22, Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and 217 attack drones. Air defense forces managed to shoot down most of the enemy targets, but there were hits, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This night, the Russians attacked Ukraine with:
- Missiles flying toward their targets along a ballistic trajectory, including Iskander-M and S-400;
- Three Kh-31P/Kh-59 air-launched missiles from the Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod regions and from the airspace over the Black Sea;
- Banderol loitering munitions;
- 217 Shahed-type attack drones (more than 50 of them were jet-powered), Gerbera drones, and Parodiya-type decoy drones from the following directions: Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk, and Hvardiiske in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea.
The main direction of the attack was the Kyiv and Odesa regions.
According to preliminary data, as of 9:00 a.m. (Kyiv time), air defenses had shot down/suppressed three Kh-31P/Kh-59 air-launched missiles, six Banderol loitering munitions, as well as 182 enemy drones in the north, south, east, and center of the country.
Enemy aerial attack weapons struck 41 locations, while debris from downed targets fell at 12 locations.
Attacks on Ukraine
Russian forces attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles this night, causing a fire in the Darnytskyi district. A warehouse caught fire in the Darnytskyi district, with one person killed and others injured.
The Russians also attacked a railway facility in Kyiv with ballistic missiles, killing an employee. The railway station in the Odesa region was also hit by the enemy.
Yesterday, August 21, Russian forces launched a drone attack on a shopping mall in Kryvyi Rih.
Enemy drones attacked the civilian facility twice, with the second strike occurring when rescuers and emergency services had already arrived at the site of the explosion.
There are 16 reported dead and 130 injured.
