Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want results from negotiations to end the war. He aims to destroy Ukraine, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with students and professors from higher education institutions in Colombia.

"Any process to end the war must be fair. Simply negotiating for the sake of negotiations, when Putin is sitting there and does not want to end the war, will lead to nothing," said Zelenskyy.

He reminded that Ukraine has been negotiating with Putin in one form or another since 2014.

"But he does not want results from these negotiations. He wants the destruction of Ukraine. So this is not a position — to talk just for the sake of talking. There is no time for that. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary for Ukraine to be in a strong position. This requires uniting the world around Ukraine and having a plan for diplomatic discussions with Russia," the president emphasized.

Ukraine and Russia negotiations

Recently, Donald Trump stated that on his first day as president of the United States, he would want to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table. Ahead of the elections, Trump repeatedly claimed that he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours.

Earlier, the Office of the President of Ukraine set the main condition for starting negotiations with Russia: the withdrawal of enemy troops to positions held before February 24, 2022. They emphasized that Ukraine is against freezing the war.

Additionally, according to Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the head of the President's Office, Ukraine may negotiate peace with Russia, but only through coercive measures. To exert pressure on the aggressor country, economic and diplomatic unity is needed.

At the same time, the US State Department stated that the United States currently sees no evidence that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is ready for negotiations to end the war in Ukraine unless they are on his terms.
