Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to Russia’s massive overnight strike by stating that Ukraine would respond in kind.

According to the President of Ukraine, the main Russian targets last night were Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities.

The President emphasizes that Russia is demonstrating utter cynicism by simultaneously asking for a ceasefire to conduct propaganda events while continuing to launch such missile and drone strikes every day leading up to it.

Zelenskyy notes that a ceasefire depends entirely on the Russian side.

"Russia could cease fire at any moment, and this would stop the war and our responses. Peace is needed, and real steps are needed to achieve it. Ukraine will act in kind," the head of state says.

Ceasefire

The day before, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a ceasefire from May 8 to May 9.

The Ministry stated that if Kyiv violated it, the Russian military would launch a massive missile strike on the center of the capital in response.

Yesterday, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had not received any official communications from Russia regarding the terms of the ceasefire, despite public statements from the Russian side.

He announced that Ukraine would initiate a ceasefire in hostilities in response to Moscow’s proposal for a truce on Victory Day. It will begin on the night of May 6.

Russian attack on Ukraine on May 5

Last night, Russia launched a new air attack on Ukraine, striking with drones and ballistic missiles.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russians fired 11 Iskander-M missiles and 164 drones of various types. Hits and the fall of debris from downed targets were recorded in a number of regions.

Russia also struck the energy infrastructure of the Poltava region, as well as Ukrainian Railways facilities in several regions.

In addition, while rescue workers were clearing up the aftermath of the Russian strikes, Russian troops fired another missile at the site where they were working.

This resulted in fatalities, including two State Emergency Service of Ukraine employees. In total, dozens of people are reported to have been wounded.

Russia also struck the Kharkiv region. One person was killed there, and several others were wounded.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, critical infrastructure was hit, and three people were wounded. In Pavlohrad, power lines were damaged, leaving thousands of families without electricity.

In addition, Russia struck the Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv regions, where there are also casualties.
