Zelenskyy on Orban: Playing up to Trump will do nothing, no one likes weak allies
Attempts by Viktor Orbán to play up to former US President Donald Trump will lead to nothing for the Hungarian Prime Minister. Weak allies are of no use to anyone, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"I believe that he (Orbán) is playing a dangerous game, primarily for Hungary itself. Hungary knows what full-scale invasion means, what the consequences of a fascist regime are. And I am surprised that sometimes Budapest's official messages sound so unbalanced and radical towards Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.
The President of Ukraine is convinced that Orbán's attempts to court Donald Trump will yield no results.
"Trump is an independent person. He will make decisions independently. You know, nobody likes weak friends. I believe that the stance should be strong. And even if your stance is different, it still will be respected because it is strong," Zelenskyy added.
Orbán's meeting with Trump
Orbán met with Trump in Florida. After the meeting, the Hungarian Prime Minister posted a complimentary message on X, saying that "we need leaders in the world who are respected and can bring peace."
"Come back and bring us peace, Mr. President!" Orbán wrote.
Orbán also said that if Trump wins the elections, he will refuse to help Ukraine.
The Prime Minister of Hungary takes an anti-Ukrainian stance and has repeatedly made statements discrediting Ukraine. For example, in November 2023, he said that Ukraine would not be able to defeat Russia in the war.
Meanwhile, Trump regularly calls for an end to the war in Ukraine and promises to do so if he wins future presidential elections.
