Zelenskyy offers Trudeau to increase funding for Ukrainian weapons production
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The conversation took place on the eve of Canada's presidency of the G7.
“I thanked Prime Minister Trudeau and the Canadian people for their unwavering support, including important defense assistance such as NASAMS,” the president said.
He also said that during the conversation they discussed key priorities, including strengthening sanctions against Russia, especially against its propaganda networks and shadow fleet.
“I also proposed to increase funding for the production of Ukrainian weapons and consider opportunities for localizing the production of certain types of weapons. Close coordination with our allies is extremely important to ensure Ukraine's strong position and achieve lasting peace and security for all,” the President of Ukraine said.
Earlier this month, the Parliament of Canada approved a decision to allocate 764 million Canadian dollars for aiding Ukraine.
Even before that, there had been talk that Canada might transfer some of the firearms it had banned to Ukraine. The decision will concern 324 types of firearms.
RBC-Ukraine also reported that Ukraine and Canada signed an agreement on the protection of classified information.
