Canada to allocate almost $587 million in military aid to Ukraine
The Parliament of Canada has decided to allocate 764 million Canadian dollars (approximately 587 million US dollars) for military assistance to Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.
This amount is part of a large package of additional expenditures that includes 21 billion Canadian dollars (approximately 14.4 billion US dollars) for various purposes, including strengthening national defense.
Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair clarified that the funds would be used for ammunition, training of the Ukrainian military, and other necessary means to ensure Ukraine's victory.
In addition to military support, the document provides 400 million Canadian dollars (307 million US dollars) of financial assistance to Ukraine through a special IMF account and 45 million Canadian dollars (35 million US dollars) for humanitarian demining and strengthening cybersecurity.
The opposition Conservative Party voted against this decision, insisting on a change of government. Despite this, the budget expenditures were approved on the last day allowed by law.
Now the decision has to be voted on in the Senate of Canada, which is expected soon.
