Ukraine expects its air defense to be strengthened through the creation of a European anti-ballistic coalition and new steps under the PURL program already by the beginning of summer, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Results of the meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief

During the meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, attended by military leadership and ministers, the consequences of a two-day enemy attack were analyzed.

The President said that the current drone interception rate stands at 93%, but he tasked officials with increasing this figure through new measures in the regions.

"I have set very specific tasks regarding both radars and other equipment. It is important that the development of our system to counter Shahed drones and other UAVs continues without pauses," the head of state emphasized.

Priority of anti-ballistic defense

Protection against ballistic missiles has been defined as a daily priority.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukrainian diplomats must consistently deliver results in engagement with partners, as countering ballistic threats requires more complex solutions.

Particular attention was paid to the initiative of European countries to create an anti-ballistic coalition.

According to the President, this is a strategic decision that would enable Europe to ensure sufficient domestic production of the necessary air defense systems and missiles.

Massive attack on May 14 and response measures

On May 14, Russia carried out a large-scale strike on Ukrainian territory, launching over 1,500 attack drones and 56 missiles of various types.

Air defense forces managed to destroy more than 93% of enemy targets; however, hits on residential buildings and infrastructure facilities were recorded.

In particular, during the attack on Kyiv, the occupying forces used a Kh-101 cruise missile that had been recently manufactured — essentially immediately after leaving the production line. This indicates that the aggressor continues to obtain foreign components for weapons production while circumventing international sanctions.

Due to the escalation of terror, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already instructed the Defense Forces and intelligence services to prepare a response to this strike.
