Zelenskyy calls for real ceasefire, but Russia remains silent

Ukraine is ready for a real ceasefire, but there is no clear public response from Russia at this time, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
As Zelenskyy said, today he had a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.
"I shared with him Ukraine’s perspective on yesterday’s conversation with President Trump and our European colleagues. Emmanuel informed about his contacts with other leaders, those that had already taken place earlier in the day and those still planned," the President said.
According to him, Ukraine and France are coordinating their positions and share the same view on the need for a common European approach to key security issues for Europe.
Zelenskyy emphasized that a great deal depends on the prudence and effectiveness of every step taken by Ukraine, Europe, and America, both now and in the future.
"We agreed that the work at both the advisor and leader levels must deliver results. We remain mindful of the need for a real ceasefire. Ukraine is ready for it, and there has been no clear public response from Russia yet. The near future must show what the consequences will be if Russia continues to drag out the war and disrupt constructive efforts," he said.
Zelenskyy also agreed to discuss the results of their talks with other leaders during the day.
Possible meeting between Trump, Zelenskyy, and Putin
On August 6, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow, where he met with Vladimir Putin.
US President Donald Trump himself called the meeting productive. According to the NYT, he allegedly intends to meet with Putin next week and then organize a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Today, Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov said that Russia and the US had agreed to hold a meeting between Trump and Putin in the coming days, and had already determined the location. Putin himself said that such a meeting could take place in the UAE.
According to Zelenskyy, various potential formats for meetings at the leadership level were discussed yesterday — two bilateral formats and one trilateral format.
In a conversation with allies, Trump suggested that Putin would agree to peace talks in exchange for discussing a territorial exchange.
