President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the Sumy region on Friday, October 4. There, he met with Ukrainian soldiers participating in the Kursk operation and held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff, according to the Telegram of the head of state.

In the Sumy region, Zelenskyy held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff. The main topic was the protection of Ukrainian infrastructure and energy, particularly the operation of air defense systems.

He heard reports from the Air Force, the Eastern Command, and also a report from Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko. Representatives from state energy companies were also present at the meeting.

"There are decisions to support the region; there will be separate meetings regarding the energy situation in the Sumy region and other border regions. The most important thing before winter is a reserve of resilience," the president noted.

Additionally, there were reports from the head of the Security Service, Vasyl Malyuk, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, regarding the situation at the front. They specifically discussed the Donetsk directions, the Kharkiv region, the southern part of the country, the border areas, and the Kursk region.

"I visited our soldiers participating in the Kursk operation—the 82nd brigade. I awarded them state honors. I am proud of the bravery of all our guys, our soldiers! It is very important to understand that the Kursk operation is a truly strategic matter, something that adds motivation for our partners, motivating them to stand with Ukraine, to be more resolute, and to put pressure on Russia—pressure that can help us end the war justly," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Fighting in the Kursk region

The offensive operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region has been ongoing for almost two months. Ukrainian forces have successfully advanced, gaining control of over a hundred populated areas.

Recently, it was reported that the number of Russian troops in the Kursk direction has increased. Currently, there are up to 45,000 Russian military personnel in that area, many of whom have been transferred from combat zones in Ukraine.

According to sources from RBC-Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the military-political leadership to secure the Kursk region by October 1.

On September 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia had begun a counteroffensive in the Kursk region.

However, the Ukrainian Armed Forces command reported that Ukrainian fighters had halted the advance of Russian troops in the Kursk region. Part of the territory remains under the control of the Defense Forces.

Recently, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had broken through one section of the front along the Russian border in the Kursk region. The breakthrough was achieved by units of the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Polissia Brigade of the Air Assault Forces.
