Ukraine agrees to halt attacks on Russia's energy and other infrastructure facilities. This could be the first step toward ending the war, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Twitter (X) and an exclusive comment from an informed source.

According to the head of the Ukrainian state, the conversation with Trump was "positive, very substantive, and frank." After negotiations between the Ukrainian and American teams in Jeddah, the leaders agreed that joint efforts to achieve a lasting peace should continue.

"We believe that together with America, with President Trump, and under American leadership, lasting peace can be achieved this year," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Partial and full ceasefire

He stated that during the negotiations, Trump disclosed details of his call with Russian President Vladimir Putin and discussed key issues they had addressed.

"One of the first steps toward fully ending the war could be ending strikes on energy and other civilian infrastructure. I supported this step, and Ukraine confirmed that we are ready to implement it," the president clarified.

Zelenskyy recalled that the American side had proposed an unconditional ceasefire along the frontline, and Ukraine accepted this proposal. The Ukrainian and American sides will continue working on implementing this initiative, which is necessary to prepare a comprehensive peace agreement.

According to the head of state, he and Trump instructed their teams to resolve the technical issues related to implementing and expanding the partial ceasefire.

"Ukrainian and American teams are ready to meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to continue coordinating steps toward peace. We instructed our advisors and representatives to carry out this work as quickly as possible," he noted.

Situation on the frontline

The two leaders also discussed the situation on the frontline. Zelenskyy informed Trump about the course of battles in the Kursk region. The parties addressed the issue of releasing prisoners of war and returning Ukrainian children who had been taken by Russian forces.

"We also discussed the state of Ukraine’s air defense and the possibility of strengthening it to protect lives," the president added.

Exclusive details

An informed source told RBC-Ukraine that Zelenskyy and Trump managed to discuss a wide range of topics.

"They talked about what was discussed with Putin (in yesterday's conversation between Trump and Putin – ed.), the possibility of expanding the ceasefire, and the release of prisoners. The president (of Ukraine – ed.) consistently promotes the idea of releasing prisoners as one of the first steps. The president also raised the issue of air defense, asking for support to strengthen it," the source added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted US President Donald Trump’s proposal to halt strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on March 18.

US President Donald Trump has already commented on his talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to Trump, the call went "very well."
