Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant on generators for seventh day, one already failed – Zelenskyy

An emergency has persisted at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant for the seventh day, with the plant operating on generators, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during his evening address.
"Already for the seventh day – and this has not happened before – there is an emergency at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The situation is critical. Due to Russian attacks, the plant is disconnected from power, from the electrical grid," he said.
According to the president, the plant is currently supplied with electricity by diesel generators, which are not designed to operate in this mode. Zelenskyy emphasized that one of the generators has already failed.
"It is the Russians who, through attacks, are preventing the repair of the power lines to the plant and the restoration of basic safety," Zelenskyy stated.
Blackout at the Zaporizhzhia NPP
On September 23, it became known that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant experienced its tenth blackout since the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. As a result, the plant receives electricity only from diesel generators.
On the evening of September 25, a meeting took place in Moscow between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.
Grossi described the conversation as timely and important, but no specific decisions regarding the Zaporizhzhia NPP were announced.
The head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety Oleh Korikov, noted that such a situation could lead to the worst-case scenario.
