Today, September 23, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was completely disconnected from external power lines, according to reports from Energoatom and Ukrenergo.

"A tenth blackout has occurred at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant since the beginning of the occupation of the plant by the Russians. Today, September 23, 2025, at 16:56, the last power line through which the Zaporizhzhia NPP received electricity from the Ukrainian power system was disconnected," Energoatom wrote.

The company clarified that due to this incident, the plant switched to power from diesel generators. Such a blackout constitutes a serious violation of the conditions necessary for the plant's normal operation, as it can lead to an accident.

Energoatom drew attention to the fact that Russian control over the Zaporizhzhia NPP creates a threat to nuclear and radiation safety at the largest nuclear facility in Europe. Therefore, the plant must be returned under Ukraine's control as soon as possible.

Ukrenergo also confirmed that a blackout was recorded at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The company clarified that repair work will commence once the security situation permits.

Blackout at Zaporizhzhia NPP

A blackout at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was also recorded on July 4.

As noted by Ukraine's Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko, the Russians struck the power line that connects the Zaporizhzhia NPP to the Ukrainian power system.
