Russia uses upgraded Iskander-1000 ballistic missile against Kyiv for first time

"In one of the combined missile strikes on the capital this summer, the enemy used upgraded 9M723-2 ballistic missiles, also provisionally known as Iskander-1000, for the first time. This missile is part of a system called Bora-M," the post said.

It is noted that the upgraded missile, due to a larger engine and a larger launcher, is capable of striking targets at a distance of up to 550 km (390 km for the 9M723-1). The remaining parts of the missile are the same as those of the 9M723-1.

"In recent months, the enemy has been using ballistic weapons as the primary means of its aerial attacks in the war. The fact that such strikes take place mainly at night, while ballistic missiles take only a few minutes to reach the Ukrainian capital, indicates their purely terrorist nature," Ukraine's Defense Intelligence stressed.

Such tactics are aimed at intimidating Ukrainians and attempting to force Kyiv into peace at any cost.

Attacks on Kyiv on August 27

Overnight, Russia attacked Kyiv and the surrounding region. Debris fell in the capital's Podilskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. Warehouses in the Kyiv region were also struck.

The Russian attack continued in the morning. In the Holosiivskyi district, a car caught fire as a result of a Russian strike, and the fire was later extinguished. In the Pecherskyi district, a sports complex building was damaged.

Social media reports indicated a possible direct drone hit in the area of Dynamo Stadium. Kyiv residents also posted footage of smoke rising above the sports complex.

In addition, around noon, Russia attacked Kyiv with drones for the second time that day. Explosions were again heard in the capital, and air defenses were operating. Three people were injured as a result of the Russian attacks.
