King Charles III joked about US President Donald Trump's statements at a formal dinner at the White House. In a joking manner, he said that if it weren’t for Britain, Americans would be speaking French, reports the BBC.
In his speech, Charles III responded to a statement about the role of the United States in world history. The king commented on Trump’s remark that European countries would be speaking German if it weren’t for the United States.
“Dare I say, if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking French,” the British king said.

He also recalled the burning of the White House in 1814 and joked that it was a British attempt at renovating the residence of the American president.
Visit of the British king to the US
Donald Trump, in the first minutes of his conversation with King Charles III, likely voiced alarming data regarding the plans of the Russian leader for the war in Ukraine. Lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling analyzed the video of the meeting and deciphered the words of the American politician.
During his speech in the US Congress, King Charles III made a veiled message to Donald Trump and Republicans not to reduce aid to Ukraine.
The meeting in the Oval Office was decided to be held in a closed format to avoid possible public scandals. The British side insisted on such confidentiality.
On the second day of the monarchs’ visit to the United States, April 29, several official events and ceremonies are planned. The royal couple will take part in a review of American service members, where nearly 500 representatives of the US Armed Forces will be present.
