Woman who lived with WWII shrapnel killed by Russian missile in Ukraine

A Russian missile claimed the life of a woman who had first been wounded back in 1941. Alla Mykolaivna survived World War II but did not survive Russian aggression, reports the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Yesterday, October 1, at around 19:05, Russian forces launched a missile strike on the city of Balakliia in the Kharkiv region, Ukraine.
The missile hit the courtyard of an apartment building, also damaging:
-
A café,
-
A pharmacy,
-
Shops,
-
An administrative building,
-
And cars.
As a result of the attack, an 88-year-old woman, Alla Mykolaivna, was killed. Ten people were injured, including a girl born in 2021, who was diagnosed with an acute stress reaction.
It was preliminarily established that the enemy used an Iskander-M missile.
Particular attention to this tragedy is linked to the story of the victim. Alla Mykolaivna was first wounded as a child during World War II, in 1941, when she was only four years old. She survived, grew up, and lived carrying the memory of those terrible years — and a fragment from that past war in her back.
"Alla Mykolaivna could not survive the current war. Today, her life was taken by Russia. She lived through World War II to see an independent and peaceful Ukraine. But she did not live to see victory and peace in her homeland," the Prosecutor's Office noted.
