US calls on Russia and Ukraine to return to peace talks

Deputy US Permanent Representative to the UN Dan Negrea called on Russia and Ukraine to stop strikes on civilian infrastructure and return to the negotiating table, according to a broadcast of the UN Security Council meeting, which was timed to coincide with Ukraine's Independence Day.
During the meeting, the diplomat stated that the United States is reiterating President Donald Trump's call for both sides to immediately cease fire and begin good-faith negotiations to end the war. Negrea emphasized that with each strike, the death toll continues to rise.
The official urged both sides to stop any strikes that could harm civilian vessels or pose a threat to them, saying that it was senseless to continue spilling the blood of innocent civilians when no military solution to the war existed.
He added that Moscow and Kyiv should return to the negotiating table and assured that Washington would play any constructive role it can to facilitate talks and help the parties reach an outcome.
Concluding, Negrea said that the US remains committed to the future of Ukraine as a sovereign and thriving state.
Prospect of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia
A few days ago, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine and its international partners had developed three key proposals for ending the war with Russia, which have already been agreed upon with the American and European sides.
Among the points are: a ceasefire, the creation of a free economic zone, and guarantees from the EU and NATO.
Zelenskyy also said that the diplomatic window of opportunity for ending the war would last from the G20 summit in December to the end of the summer of 2027.
Incidentally, a few days ago, Russian leader Vladimir Putin stated that Russia was allegedly ready for dialogue on peace with Ukraine. However, he once again repeated his mantra that he would only agree to talks based on the realities on the ground.
