Russian army launched five attacks on Ukraine's railway infrastructure, killing one and injuring four people, according to a statement by Mykola Kalashnyk, Ukraine's Minister of Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport.

Assault launched in Kharkiv region

Russian drone struck a passenger electric train traveling from Lozova to Kharkiv at Lymanivka station. The train was stopped in advance because of the threat of a drone strike, and passengers began to evacuate.

Most passengers, along with the train crew, managed to move to a safe distance from the railway infrastructure. However, some people remained near the train.

The strike killed one passenger and injured four others.

The Russians later attacked the same electric train again while rescue workers were already at the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured in the second strike.

Railway workers urged passengers to carefully follow crew instructions during evacuations and, under no circumstances, remain near the train because of the risk of repeated attacks.

Train hit in Odesa region

As previously reported, a Russian jet-powered Shahed drone struck a passenger train locomotive in the Odesa region.

The train was also stopped in advance, allowing railway workers to evacuate 593 passengers, including 15 children. No one was injured.

After the initial strike, Russia targeted the locomotive a second time. All passengers were safely transported to Odesa by bus.

Losses in railway sector

Russian Federation has attacked Ukraine's railway system 1,534 times since the beginning of 2026.

According to data since the start of the full-scale invasion:

  • 249 railcars have been damaged
  • 492 locomotives have been damaged
  • 52 employees of Ukrainian state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia have been killed while performing their duties
  • 317 railway workers have been injured.

Ukrainian railway assets come under Russian attacks

Russia continues its systematic assaults on civilian and railway infrastructure across the country.

As previously reported, a railway worker was recently killed in a Russian ballistic missile strike on a railway facility in Kyiv, while a railway station in the Odesa region also came under attack.

Also, Russia carries out targeted strikes on rolling stock. In particular, a Russian drone previously struck a passenger train in the Odesa region carrying 340 people, resulting in casualties.
