Russian President Vladimir Putin is doing everything possible to withdraw from the peace process and continue the war in Ukraine. Although geopolitically, Russia has already lost this war on all fronts, according to Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Geopolitically, Russia has already lost because, on the one hand, it has become a raw materials appendage of China, and on the other hand, it has lost any opportunity to drag Ukraine into its Russian world in terms of civilization. Russia is no longer capable of resolving this issue globally by military force.

"For decades to come, Russia will be thinking exclusively about how not to split apart," Kovalenko says.

The reason for Russia's defeat is the course chosen by Putin. The general problem of Russia is Putin's regime and the model of elites. The root of the problem lies in the 1990s, when Yeltsin failed to transform the Asian Russian civilization into a real democracy. Instead, he drank himself to death, and Putin chose the USSR model within Russia's borders.

"Only China can save Russia from collapse in the future," Kovalenko concludes.

Recently, the National Security and Defense Council noted that China has chosen a strategy toward the European Union. China sees Europe not as a single bloc, but as a set of states with different strategic weights.

Beijing seeks to balance between the US and the EU through economics and diplomacy without provoking open confrontation, while Russia plays the role of a tool for exerting pressure on Europeans for the Chinese.

Russia's biggest ally

On December 31, Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin exchanged New Year's greetings. They agreed to continue close cooperation and deepen the bilateral partnership.

China claims to be neutral, but in reality, it is helping Russia fight against Ukraine. China buys Russian energy resources, provides satellite intelligence data to Russia, and supplies critical components and military goods.

On December 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters that China is currently not showing any willingness to join the peaceful settlement of the war. Beijing's actions only strengthen Russia's financial capabilities to continue its aggression against Ukraine. After that, Beijing claimed that it allegedly supports peace initiatives, but failed to provide a single example of the success of Chinese support.
